Principal Investigator

Picture
David P. Corina, Ph.D.
Dr. Corina's research focuses on understanding the neural bases of higher cognitive function, specifically language and memory. He is interested in neurobiological models of language processing and elucidating the degrees of plasticity within systems related to language and memory, drawing insights from the comparisons of signed and spoken languages. Dr. Corina's work includes developmental studies of children learning language, studies of deaf and hearing college students and neuropsychological studies of language breakdown in aging populations. On-going studies explore language and human actions processing in deaf users of American Sign Language and hearing users of spoken language. A current interest is in the expression of cross-modal plasticity in children with cochlear implants. Dr. Corina's research encompasses psychology, linguistics and neuroscience.

Research Staff

Graduate Students
Picture
Ludmila Midrigan Ciochina
Ludmila is a fifth year PhD Candidate in the Linguistics Department. She is studying Anatomical and Functional differences in Multilingual vs Mono/Bilingual populations, using fMRI. She enjoys playing piano, reading, and spending time with her family.

Picture
Jamie Herron Lee

Jamie is a fourth year doctoral student in the Linguistics Department. Her research interests focus on the characterization and development of second language and bi/multilingual proficiency in the brain. She enjoys cooking, DIY projects, and relaxing at home with her husband and cats.

Picture
Elizabeth Pierotti
Elizabeth is a third year doctoral student in Psychology using EEG to study how deaf and typical hearing children learn the meaning of spoken words. Outside of research, she likes running, cooking, and listening to music.

Picture
Tristan Schaefer
Tristan is a graduate student in Linguistics with an interest in language acquisition in deaf children. Some of his current research projects involve ERP and time-frequency analyses of ASL linguistic processing. He enjoys spending time in front of a computer, good conversations/food, and soccer.

Undergraduate Research Assistants

Karolina Ruiz-Rogelj
Karolina is a third-year undergraduate student majoring in Cognitive Science with a computational emphasis, as well as pursuing double minors in Linguistics and German. She is interested in the computational aspects of cognition and language and is in the preliminary stages of her Honors Thesis. Outside of school, she loves reading and playing the piano.
